Meet Phyllie

The Melbourne2020 IGLA Championships mascot and logo - our very own Phyllie.

Meet "phyllie", our logo inspiration.

OUR MASCOT

The Melbourne2020 IGLA Championships mascot and logos have been inspired by Australia's very own seadragon (Phyllopteryx Taeniolatus) and is the marine emplem of the Australia State of Victoria.

LOGO RATIONALE

Like with seahorses, there is a switching in stereo-typical gender roles with seadragon males, the sex that cares for the developing eggs and takes care of offspring called fry.

Adult common seadragons are a reddish colour, with yellow and purple markings and has been chosen as the Melbourne2020 logo for its likeness to the multicoloured rainbow flag, commonly known as the gay or LGBT pride flag.

Like the rainbow flag, the Melbourne2020 sea dragon Phyllie becomes a symbol and mascot for LGBT pride and celebrates the diversity of the LGBT community in the aquatic arena.
